Bar Placement Scheme
The Bar Placement Scheme allows students to spend three days shadowing their barrister in chambers and in court. On the final day of the scheme, students attend talks by barristers and/or judges, and receive advocacy training from the Inns of Court College of Advocacy. Prizes are awarded for the best student advocates by a senior member of the Bar, so this is an excellent opportunity to build up your skills and CV, and to work out whether a career at the Bar would be suitable for you.
February half term
Students from Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester (applications open in November/December)
The first or second week of July
Students from London, Birmingham and Bristol (applications open in March/April)
To deliver the Bar Placement Scheme, the Bar Council works with Pathways to Law and the Social Mobility Foundation. Places are awarded on the following criteria:
- Quality of the application
- Demonstrated commitment to and interest in a career as a barrister
- Fulfilment of social mobility criteria
If you are a state-educated sixth form student and would like to apply for the scheme independently, the relevant application forms will become available in due course.
Please send an email to bps@barcouncil.org.uk or telephone 020 7611 1396 for further information.
